11/29/2010

I am having a great day today.  It is the end of November, 60 degrees, AND mom & dad are both staying home with me.  I am loving every minute.  They tell me it is because starting tomorrow I am off to the daycare place.  I have been there twice for some quick visits and the place doesn't seem so bad.  There are some loud kids there, but they seem nice enough.  I am sure I will have lots to share about that on my next post.  Until then, I have a few updates.

My "Grand - God mother" Cheryl
Ryan, Sidney, Andi, & Lucas

Starting with one of mom's favorites.  I have progressed to sleeping 8-9 hours at night, well for 2 nights in a row and then it was time to make our road trip in the new ride.  That's right we went back to Lincoln (mom's hometown) for my first Thanksgiving.  I woke up a little early (5 am) Thursday morning so I ate and then we got all packed up and started on our way.  I don't know why mom and dad are so stressed, I think the long car rides are a blast.  I got in to the warm car and next thing I knew we were in Lincoln at grandma's house.  It was a whirlwind of a trip I had so much fun and met SO many people.  I counted 14 different people that held me.  A lot of those people were at Thanksgiving.  After picking up Grandma Janice we took another drive to York to Cheryl & Larry's.  Mom says they may not be official family, but there darn close, all I know is they were super nice.  Also, they had more family there so I got to meet Lary and Andi and her family.  I sure loved Andi's kids they were so funny.  Lucas liked to sing to me, and the girls...they were just so pretty, I loved looking at them!  Apparently while we there mom and dad had a feast, I wouldn't know because I napped and then ate the usual.  I'm not complaining, but a little variety every once in a while might be nice.  They say next year I may get to try some of the good stuff.  I'll believe it when I see it.  After we ate we headed back to Lincoln, of course I slept the whole way back.  The first night in grandma's house I only slept 6 hours, so dad rocked me and we took a nap in the bed upstairs.  Friday we went and visited Grandpa Mclain at his house, we hung out there and heard all about the Hawaii trip and saw some video of his helicopter ride.  Grandpa has to go have a surgery on Wednesday so we will be praying for him and thinking of him in the next few days.  After we visited him we went over to Dale and Mindy's house to watch the Huskers totally whip up on Colorado, not going to miss that so called rivalry game.  BJ, Tanja, and there kids came over to watch the game.  I got a lot of attention and did not sleep that long over there, so I was getting kind of tired and grumpy.
Mindy loving on me
BJ and Tanja thinking of another?
So we decided to head back over to Grandma's.  Mom and Dad went over to Rob and Amber's to see the new baby, but decided that my day had gone on long enough so I stayed there and Grandma read me a book or two.  Mom and dad picked up mom's favorite Taco Inn and brought it back home.  I slept 9 hours that night.  My next blog will be about the Christmas tree and daycare.  Stay tune it should be exciting.  Amelia out!

11/21/2010

I know, I know....it has been way too long since I have posted.  Well you see, I thought I would wait till I could announce my next big milestone.  That's right....I have hit double digits y'all.  Double digits meaning 10 lbs.  10 lbs at 10 1/2 weeks.  Mom and dad say that I am a slow grower (comparing to all my huge friends - more on that later), but think about it...if I stay at this rate, I will be over 500 lbs at age 10, I am sure I will catch up with other babies one day.  Ok, enough of that.

Life has been quite nice, I am settled into mom and dad's low key/quiet lifestyle.  I think I am digging it that way.  Don't get me wrong other people aren't so bad every once in a while, but I'm pretty content here hanging with them.  I have started voicing my opinion around the house a lot more lately and boy do they like listening to me, so I just keep on talking.  Sometimes I crack myself us, sometimes I get to talking so much I run out of breath.  It is tiring.  Speaking of tiring, I am still burning those calories kicking all day long, but now sometimes I add to it by holding these barbells (aka rattles) that mom and dad gave me.  I figure I should work the upper body too.

Can't quite reach the pedals yet, but it sure is comfy!
I have got out and about quite a bit, the biggest outing was going shopping for a new ride.  I must say it's pretty sweet.  I especially like the tinted windows, I feel like I have quite a bit more room too.  Dad says it will be a good ride when we take road trips and now he will be able to pick me up from daycare since he gets home hours before mom.  I am not sure what this daycare thing they talk about is, but I'm not sure it is good because I keep seeing mom get teary eyed when she talks about it.  She started a countdown to when she goes back to work and I have to go to this daycare place, I guess it is only 9 days.  She just keeps telling me how she is going to miss me.  I guess these next 9 days will be a blast.
Ava, Ryder, & me

Another fun thing last week included having dinner with mom and dad's small group and my new friends.  Of course, we were missing one yet again (Violet couldn't come because her parents were sick), but I got to see Ryder and Ava.  It was pretty fun, we are all within 8 days of each other so we're on the same wave length you see.  Now of course I am the oldest therefore I'm sure they look up to me for guidance, although I am also the smallest (they both outweigh me by 2 pounds!) so I don't know how seriously they take me.  We took some photos, I think Ryder was enjoying being surrounded by us pretty girls (if I do say so myself).  I saw him eyeing Ava, so I did make my move - see picture below, but I was informed that was not appropriate.  Whatever, he didn't seem to mind.   Next time we need to get some pictures of the adults, because they are pretty cool too.  I'm not sure why they only snap us kids.  Anyway, Mom was pretty happy - one because dinner was tacos...mmmm...but secondly her and Ava's mom figured out that Ava and I are going to the same daycare!   Again, not real sure what that is - but I'm thinking it will be pretty cool to know someone.

I slept...
while dad worked
poor Marley..so left out
This weekend including dinner over at the Ludlow's - mom didn't take any photos, so you will just have to trust me that it was fun.  Maddie went to bed early (lightweight), so I laid on the table kicked and told Patty a story myself.  Saturday was a day of raking.  Ok, for dad...i just sat outside in my swing and enjoyed watching him do the work.  Wow there were more leaves than I ever seen in my life.  Yes, I know that is not saying a lot, as it is my first fall, but after 3-4 hours - dad tended to agree with my assessment.  Fun times...  Not so fun times included watching the Huskers lose last night to Texas A&M.  WHAT?  I was even sporting a pretty new Nebraska dress (thanks Noecker's!) for the occasion.  : (  Now I see why they say we are going to the Big 10....no more Texas schools to play our worst against (oh and Big 12 refs that are out to get us!).   Today we had a good time at church and then went on a super long walk!  Mom and dad said that 75 degrees this late in November is not normal so we had to enjoy it.  I enjoyed it so much that I took a nice long nap.  Ahhhh naps....

Enjoy a little video of me playing with my dumbbell....uh, rattle.  I'll try to find my talking videos for a later date.

Pretty new dress!

Check out the link to my new page on the right that will show all my month birthday pics!
cute band-aids didn't make me feel any better

That's right....I am 2 months old!!  I hit the big milestone this past weekend it was a big day for me.  But before I give you those fun-filled details let me give you some stats.  9 lbs 8 oz., 22 inches.  Those were my numbers when I went to the doctor for my 2 month visit on Thursday.  Apparently I am only 25% in both weight and height.  My head on the other hand was in the 50% category.  So I guess that means that   although 75% of the girls are bigger than me, they better watch out on the SAT's - because my head is growing at regular pace meaning my brain needs more room because it is so big.  The trip to the doctor was not all fun and games.  After Doc came in and said I was looking good and reassured mom and dad that I am not too skinny this nurse came back in.  One minute she was smiling at me, and the next minute I felt shooting pains in my legs one after the other.  Before I caught on and gave her a swift kick, dad swooped me up and talked to me.  I tried to tell him that this woman just stuck me and it really, really hurt - but he kept telling me everything was OK.  And his arms were so strong and warm, I started feeling better.  He explained to me that I got these shots they call vaccinations and they are suppose to keep me safe and healthy.  But seriously....3 of them...you could give a girl some warning at least.   I hope I don't have to get any more anytime soon.  They gave me this pretty band-aids and we went home.  All was Ok at first,  but then I did not feel good and I let mommy know.  She eventually gave me something called Tylenol and I felt much better.  Soon enough I was back in my usual position kicking up a storm!

The next day, mom kept telling me about this 'road trip' we were going to take.  You see dad's cousin Jay was getting married in Omaha and mom and dad really wanted to go to help celebrate.  Finally dad got home and they started putting all this stuff in the car and we headed out.  Something about this just wasn't sitting right with me so I let them know.  Apparently giving them a few screams early on was enough to freak them out, because next thing I knew we were back home.  I heard them discussing what we should do.  Apparently we were going to go to Lincoln and visit Grandma Janice and hopefully meet some of mom and dad's friends but they decided that they had too much scheduled for a quick weekend.  So instead we stayed back at home.  I wasn't so happy the rest of the night, perhaps it was too much for me.  Mom and dad seemed pretty happy that they didn't end up driving home after all.  They did have to do some last minute searching.  For a place for Marley to stay that is.  I guess she wasn't invited to go with us to Omaha.  Luckily our friend's Tyler & Sarah were nice enough to take Marley to their house to play with Lily for a few days, isn't that great?  Marley has since told me that Lily is more fun to play with than me.  She better wait till I get control of my arms, because I'll show her....

Saturday morning, mom fed me breakfast and we played for a bit.  Then we hopped in the (already packed) car and drove to Omaha.  I was pretty worn out, so once we got out of town I crashed, and if it weren't for the darn sun I would have been out the whole time.  Instead I woke up to seeing mom try to put things in the windows to keep me from getting sun in my eyes.  I guess she does love me, because she looked pretty funny and uncomfortable.  Would it kill them to think about getting tinted windows?!

Anyway, we made it to the hotel safe and sound.  Mom and dad decided to forego the ceremony as it was clear across town, and I was going to need to eat.  They really don't trust that I will stay quiet.  I don't think I would have ruined the ceremony, but I understand their concern.  Instead we stayed back at the hotel and watched the Nebraska game with all these new friends I met.  That's right I got to meet even more cousins!  Let's see if I can remember them all...there was Siera, Bailey, & Mallorie who I remember from a month or so, but this time I got to meet a bunch of boy cousins.  Zach, Ryan, Jason, & Eric - they all wanted to hold and talk to me too.  I feel so lucky.  Ryan held me first, I wasn't sure what I thought right away, but then I decided he was pretty darn comfy.  I was pretty excited to meet Eric, my godfather...I'm so glad he took a break from his big college life to come down and meet me.  I can't wait till I get some of that gum he was chewing when he held me.  It looked super good.

Jason, Ryan, & Siera - oh yeah and me napping
I liked staring at Eric

I don't want to talk much about the game because it wasn't a pretty win.  But in the end it was a "W" and dad says that is what matters.  Even a win in OT to an Iowa State team that only lost because they had the guts to go for 2?  I don't know....but the pollsters seemed to notice because we fell to 8th...but that's OK.  Bring on the next blowout game...KU! Mom and Dad got all dressed up in nice clothes, so they decided to make me change out of my Husker gear into a pretty new dress.  So I could meet even more people.  I got to meet my Aunt Rachelle who was very nice and even brought me a flower.  I didn't mind going downstairs to say hi to people at first, but then I became a bit overwhelmed.  they were getting ready to sit down for dinner and I started looking around the room and seeing ALL the people, it freaked me out.  There were 40 something tables of people, and if I use my big brain to do a bit of math.... brings the totals to 420+ people!!  Wow, I think I was justifiably overwhelmed.  Aunt Rhonda, who was carrying me and introducing me to a bunch of people I won't remember, was nice enough to take me out of the madness for a while.  Too  many people!!!
We make a pretty good lookin' family I must say!
I guess mom and dad enjoyed a nice dinner, but I wasn't so happy myself.  So they came upstairs to cheer me up and calm me down a bit.  That worked long enough for mom to go dance one song with dad, after that I decided that she just needed to stay with me and hang out in the room for some good quality time.  We sat and sang some songs and calmed down.  Dad hung out downstairs with his family and got caught up with old friends.  Apparently we missed a "dance off" between the happy couple and their families.  If I would have known such fun was going on downstairs, I may have just ventured back down!  But instead I chose to sleep.  Apparently good, because mom and dad keep talking about trying to figure out what they can simulate from the hotel room as I slept over 7 hours - the longest I have slept to date.  I woke up to eat and then slept another 4 hours!   That would be super sweet if I get my own double bed in my room, but I'm guessing that won't happen again for sometime.  Mom and dad woke me up in the AM because they were hungry and wanted to go enjoy the free breakfast.  I then hung out with the family a bit more before we started the drive back home.  I have so many people that love holding and talking to me, I'm pretty lucky.  I decided to sleep the whole way home again dreaming of all of them (even through the Nascar like fuel pit stop that we took in St. Joe).    Now it is back to the swing of things back here at home.  Which isn't too bad either!

11/3/2010

I have had some activity packed days since my last posting, so I will do my best in giving you the highlights.  Thursday night was a get together with mom & dad's small group from church.  Mom told me that we were all wearing costumes, so I sure felt out of place when I was the only one wearing something.  I quickly let dad know that I didn't like being the only one in costume, so he was nice enough to take it off for me.  We got to hang out with everyone and meet my latest gal pal, Violet.  It's pretty cool that I have 4 new friends to grow up with...and I'm the oldest!  Does that mean they will all look up to me??  That may be an issue though since Ava who is 3 days younger than me, already outweighs me by multiple pounds.  And newbie Violet is almost at my size.  Perhaps I do need to eat more!  Oh well, I am going to say age trumps size.  I look forward to more get togethers with them (and Ryder who was MIA).

Friday morning after breakfast, mom told me that we had a special trip planned.  And boy was she right...we went to help 'Aunt' Stephanie pick out a wedding dress.  I am so honored to be her personal stylist.  Ok, maybe I don't have any official titles but I really think that if she goes with my suggestions she will be beautiful.  The only problem with that is she was beautiful in all of the dresses she put on.  I don't know how she ever is going to pick the perfect one, I am glad I don't have to make the final decision.  I took a sneak peek at some of the gowns for future reference, you know to give dad an idea of how much to start to saving!  : ) Steph and I did pose for a photo op, but don't think I am going to spoil the brides moment and post any pics of her in dresses.  Oh I can't wait to hear all about her big day.  I will be one by then, so I am sure it will be even cooler.  I digress....after shopping we all went to lunch for some Mexican food.  Mmmmm...  Then mom took me back home to hang out with dad some while she went back out with Stephanie.  All in all, a great day!

Saturday started off pretty great.  We went on our family walk which is always good and then it was time to cheer on the 'Skers again.  I am practicing my Go Big Red chant.  Apparently I did pretty good because they pretty much dominated the undefeated Missouri Tigers.  That was even with our quarterback out of the game.  Boy oh boy, does that make the choke fest against Texas hurt that much more.  Dad says as long as we win the Big 12 we shouldn't care, so I am trying to put it out of my mind.  The MU game took forever...it made us late to my first official Halloween party over at Coke Castle (what a cool name for a house, huh?).  This time I wasn't the only one dressed up, which made me a lot happier.  There were firemen, tigers, a black widow spider, the list goes on.  My favorite was Avery the bee and her dad the Drag Queen Bee.  I know you all wish you had as cool of friends as me!  Oh yeah...I was a pea pod.  I was cool (actually quite warm) with it for a while, but then I wanted out.  I mean come on...a house full of people and I am in this furnace of a costume and on top of that it was so loud.  I am not use to so many voices and stimulation.  I was not a fan, so mom and dad had to quickly say goodbyes and get me home to scream my way to sleep.  I think it will be a while till I get to go to a party with that many people again.

After the night before, mom and dad weren't too sure about Halloween - but I think I was pretty good. I dressed up in my costume one last time to go over for dinner to our neighbors house.  This time the costume did what my mom was hoping it would do every time.  I was dead asleep.  It was so warm and cozy and even better than my sleep sack because I could move my arms.  I could hear my mom calling me "my sweet pea" while I slept.  Apparently I slept through all the trick or treaters, dad said there were carloads of them again this year.  No extra candy for me, I guess.  Probably for the best...

More later.  Amelia Out!

I love my other mobile so much that I got another battery operated one with lights for the other side of the crib.  Apparently turning the knob every 2 minutes was not mom & dad's idea of fun.  Now I can sit under this for hours!!
