9/30/2010

It is officially fall weather here in KC and I'm lovin' it!  That means I get to go on a walk every day with the fam...and mom says that we are even going to venture out tomorrow to meet Maddie and her mom for some patio action on the Plaza.  Hopefully she keeps her promise to me, if not I may just find a way to let her know that I am listening to her and expect action when promised!

I have been listening to mom & dad this week and have given them some more sleep.  I am working my way to a full nights sleep, but right now am still at 4-5 hours.   Apparently, mom is happy with this because she is much more happy and coherent during the day.  Now she does go to bed before me, but I'm cool with that because dad and I get some good quality time in together.

There are a few highlights since the last time I posted, but I will apologize for mom & dad because they were not very good about taking pics this week.  Apparently they forget that you all come here to see how I am growing and changing.  Until I can take the camera and do some shots of my own, I will try my best to remind them of their duty.  I have now gotten my first bath, (in water this time!).  That was pretty cool, but dad really did not know what he was doing and mom just hovered over him with the camera.  I also met Avery's mom Katrina, I'm told I will get to meet Avery sometime soon....I feel like I know her from her blogs that mom shows me.  She said that I was very cute and small.  Patty and Maddie came over again for a visit and brought some rolls over for mom and dad.  So sweet...

One more picture that I found was of some other visitors from last weekend, Andy and Shelly.  I can't wait unit I can play with their little girl, who apparently is still in route.   Any day now!!  I'm pretty sure that they loved holding and getting to know me.  I'm thinking that I am a pretty popular gal!

I'll get cleaned up and try to get some close-ups for my next posting, until then here is an oldie (i.e. last week) of me napping!  Amelia out.

9/25/2010

Boy does time fly when you are having fun.  It has been almost a 1/3 of my life since I last blogged, I really need to aim to improve that stat.  In the meantime, I will try my best to remember all the highlights from this past week.  Week 3....

Mom found this wrap, that put me to sleep right away.  It's pretty sweet!

First of all, I will start with the big news.  I have finally lost my umbilical cord, that eyesore really was holding on too long and it was starting to get in the way of my style.  I mean, who wants a big bump sticking through your shirt?  Now the only big bump sticking out is my tummy.  Per mom and dad, I am getting quite the gut.  I guess that is a good thing.  Dad stuck me in his scale/contraption last night and I am 7lbs 9 oz....so a whole pound more than I was when we got home.  I am eating like a champ, so I would guess it is to be expected.

So my new (adult) BFF Sonja left us yesterday.  I was so sad the whole way home, I feel like no one gave me warning that she wasn't here to stay.  Not only was she nice to me even though I totally spit up and projectile pooped on her, but while she was here I actually got to see mom without big bags under her eyes.   Sonja and I got some alone time as one day, mom went to get her haircut and then mom and dad went out to some fancy restaurant.  Without ME!!!  What were they thinking?  Well apparently they had a great time and of course Sonja and I had a blast.  Mom got another night away that week too, dad and I stayed home and watched some TV while mom had a girls night out with Sonja, Stephanie, and something called a glass of sangria.

Mom & Dad took a pic with me before ditching me for "date night"
Yesterday I met my Grandpa McLain he came all the way down from Lincoln for the day to meet me.  We chilled for quite a while and got some good quality time in before he had to head back.  Mom says I'll get more chances to see him soon.

Now we are at another weekend with just me, mom, & dad.  I love dad being home all day, we take some good naps together on the couch.  It is Husker Saturday, so of course I am wearing my red & white today.  Dad says that we are just going to listen to tonight's game and no one really will see me, but I'm still sporting a sweet red headband that matches some awesome Husker booties that I just got from the Rothe's.  They are great!  Since the weather is so nice, I'm sure we'll go on another family walk today - so I need to make sure I look good and people know where my allegiance lies.

9/20/10

It's been awhile since I have last blogged, I really will try to get better.  I feel so lucky to have had a lot of visitors since we have last talked.  Of course mom hasn't been on top of things and didn't get photos of everyone so I am not going to mention them all because I am afraid I will miss someone.  I just know that I must be darn cute if people want to see and hold me!!!

This past weekend we had to ourselves to get to know each other even better.  I watched my first Nebraska football game with mom and dad.  I might be good luck because we kicked butt.  Sorry Washington fans but we dominated that game.  Dad says that we are still overrated, I think that we are going to win the national championship.  I am only 2 weeks old mind you but if Corso can pick us, I figure that I am just as qualified as that idiot.
We have also been going for walks at night with Marley.  They have been fun....well really I have slept through most of them.  Mom has been enjoying getting out of the house.

Mom and I made  our first solo trip today...to the airport.  We picked up Aunt Sonja who flew in from Houston.  Ok, apparently she is not a 'legal' aunt...but my mom says she is the next best thing and I'm one lucky girl.  She is going to stay with us this whole week so I'm sure I'll have some more updates later.  But for now I am being told it is time  to get some sleep.  Even though I just woke up from a nap in my swing (pictured below)....mom kept trying to re-situate me, but I was soooo comfy!

9/15/10

Well it has been awhile since my last blog, but I have been a very busy girl with all the sleeping, eating, and pooping I have been doing.  My dad puts me on his work scale to weigh me all the time, I don't particularly love it but I put up with it as he thinks it is fun to see how much I eat.  I think I have been eating really well and am filling out nicely...7 lbs!   Sunday Tyler and Sarah came over for a visit and brought some great dessert over for us to eat.  My dad ate half of it that night.  Some great strawberry and rhubarb pie.  That you very much for that.   I also got a bath that night and smelled baby fresh.  More bath pictures are sure to come.

My 1 week birthday came and went...but today I have hit double digits.  That's right...10 days old.  Sweet!  Grandma Janice left yesterday, so now it is just me and mom & dad and Marley of course.  She keeps roaming around the house looking for people, am I not enough?!  I think we are fairing OK so far but it's hard telling.  One thing I know is the house won't be as clean, mom doesn't seem quite as motivated to clean floors and do dishes as all of our guests were.

I have had a fun filled last few days.  One of the highlights is to meet my gal pal Maddie.  Her mom Patty came by to give mom a few things and I finally got to meet Maddie in person as opposed to just hearing about her.  Unfortunately, we didn't get to swap fashion secrets or stories for long because I had to prep for my photo shoot.  To get a bit of practice we did get a few shots in, Maddie seems a lot bigger than me but mom and dad say that is expected since she is 5 weeks older.  Soon enough I'll be that big too.  Crazy!

Ok on to my photo shoot.  Mom had a photographer come over to capture some photos of me, she really didn't give me much of a heads up so I was a bit worried that I hadn't got enough sleep (don't want any bags under my eyes), but apparently the photographer wanted me to sleep.  I was awake at the beginning, but the next thing I knew she was wrapping me up and putting me on a heating pad.  Apparently she took quite a few pics in between, but all I remember is waking up and peeing all over mom.  Why was she holding me without a diaper anyway?  I didn't feel too bad about it.  Anyway...the photographer put up a few of the pics on her blog...and I gotta say, I look good!  I did get bumped from the top of it already, but scroll down and you can see a few!

9/12/10

I'm back after a long and eventful weekend, obviously I make no promises of keeping up with this thing daily.  After all, I am only awake a few hours each day.  That goes for mom and dad too...

I decided Thursday night at 11 p.m. that I would no longer be eating at the table of mom.  I wasn't getting enough to eat and my mom and dad, being new and all had a panic attack and called ask a nurse at 2 a.m.  They told them that I was just hungry, so dad made me a bottle.  Luckily the doctor gave them some formula or dad was going for a drive.  Of course the novices were not prepared so they had to get the Internet out and find out how to warm a bottle, boil the bottles, and make the formula.  They say that there use to be a time when people didn't have the Internet.  I'm thinking thank god I wasn't here then...because I may have been in trouble!  Anyway, they finally fed me and I was fine, I slept for three hours, ate again, then slept for another 3 hours.  I went to the doctor and weighed in a bit small 6 lbs 6 oz.  Mom says one day I will be thrilled when the doctor says that I have lost weight, but apparently now that isn't the right way to be going.  So I have to go back on Sunday for another weigh in.
Grandma Kay, Rhonda, Mallorie, Dad, Grandpa Paul, Siera, Brian, and Mom
Minus all the food fiasco, this new home of mine was a full house.  Along with Grandma Janice and her dog...I had even MORE family come and visit.  Grandma and grandpa Steffen came down from NE bringing aunt Rhonda, uncle Brian, cousin Siera, and cousin Mallorie.  I was pretty sure that I was cute, but they loved on me so much that I'm quite sure I'm irresistible.  Not only did they spoil me with love and more cute clothes (including this super sweet tutu and hat in the picture), Siera and Mallorie made cookies and everybody else cleaned the house and did laundry.  Brian and grandpa aerated the yard and cleaned up the deck for us.  I was held all day and loved by everybody.  We had a great time.  Aunt Rhonda stayed overnight and took me up to mom every three hours so that I once again could eat at the table of mom.  She also burped me and changed my diapers all night long.  Mom and dad got a lot of sleep and thank her so much for what she did for them.   Obviously it worked well, because we just got back from the doctor and I am now up to 6lb12oz....almost to birth weight!  Apparently that is a good thing, because mom is thrilled that she can sleep longer at night which means she won't be waking me up either.  So she thinks... we'll see what mood I am in tonight.

Speaking of sleep... Amelia OUT.

9/8/10

Today I went home and oh how exciting that was to ride in the car.  I slept most of the way while dad yelled at drivers around him to slow down because there is a baby on board.  We arrived home and introduced myself to Marley.  She loves me very much and follows me around and make sure that dad and mom don't drop me.  She loves to lay under my bed and when I cry she comes a running.  I think that all she really wants to do is smell me or whatever I touch.  She is going to fall over from the lack of sleep.  She has gone from 18 hours a day to 5 hours, along with dad and mom.  That is why if dad types something over and over, or spells things wrong, or just falls on the key board its my bad.  We had pizza last night and took some really good pictures with mom, dad, and Marley.
Now let me tell you what I did to them last night, advice welcome.  I decided that I could not sleep by myself.  Grandma Janice stayed up with me until midnight where I slept just fine with her.  Then I felt a little hungry so mom got up and gave me some food.  Dad put me to bed and I went ballistic so he got up and had to walk the house for an hour and a half.  He thought that he could lay me down for awhile but I  wanted nothing to do with it.  He rocked me for the next hour and a half, Marley guarded us to make sure nothing bad was going to happen.  Mom came down and got us to feed at 3 am.  Dad tried to sleep during that time.  After the feeding I laid down for a whole 5 minutes, which I thought was plenty of time.  Dad again walk the house and rocked me until 6:30 am, when I think he just passed out.  I think that today I will be nicer to them, because I overheard dad tell mom that he would spend $4000 on anything that would let me sleep through the night, and we all know how tight he is with the money.  That is all for today I will talk to you later.  Trying to come up with a catch phrase, but to tired to think.  Amelia OUT!

Grandma Janice
I had a much better day today.  There was no doctor pulling me out of my warm home.  I slept a whole lot last night so I am hungry and ready to eat.  My cone head is starting to go down and I am looking much cuter today.  Our day nurse Raimonda and her helper Sam really helped me get to latching on with mom, so things are going much better now.  Mom was beginning to feel better and is getting some rest.  Grandma Janice came and held me while my dad went home to shower and got Marley ready for me to come home.  Dad said that she sniffed my cap he brought home so hard he thought she might suck the yarn up her nose.  I can't wait to  meet this furry little creature that dad keeps calling me by accident.  (Grandma Kay is going to love hearing that since dad use to make fun of her for calling him by his brothers names).
We have had so many doctors come in and visit with us, I'm ready for a break. We met with my new doctor Dr. Martin, I get to see her on Friday.  Dad is going to try and upload some videos when he gets home with faster internet.  I think that is all for today, I am actually kind of tired now.

9/6/2010

Since I am so popular and friends and family all over the world, I thought that this would be the easiest way to do it.  My future friend Avery gave me the idea so I can keep my homies in the loop of my busy life.  I am leaving this in the hands of dad and he is not that technical with the computer thing.  So blame him if it is lame or bad spelling, he only interprets my thoughts.
I was born on September 6th at 4:15 p.m.  I weighed in at a whopping 6 lbs. 14 oz, and 20 inches long, but the cone head probably added a inch.  I am doing great and is just a prefect baby (dad's opinion).

Nurse Holly
Nurse Chris
Let me tell you how I came into the world.  It was a great Sunday night for a bbq at my future friend's (Madeline "Mad Dog's Ludlow) house.  So mom and dad took some food over to grill out.  Dad and Stu just fired up the grill and mom of course had to go to the bathroom again.  When dad and Stu were about to through the meat on the grill I decided to throw a wrench in the plans.  I popped the water so my mom had to be a little embarrassed and wrap a towel around herself to get to the car, and Stu was nice enough to put a trash bag on the seat for mom to sit on, meanwhile dad was floating on cloud nine.  We went home to get the suitcase, and dad forgot almost everything including my car seat.  We all arrived at the hospital at around 8 p.m. and met our nurse Holly.  Mom had problems getting the I.V. to go in, but after that we just decided to chill for awhile.  Around midnight I felt the contractions starting to move me down, let me tell you that wasn't fun, but I thought what the heck lets see where are we going.  Then at 5 a.m. mom got a little help from this thing called an epidural, which made her feel great and we rested for awhile.  Dad had to sleep on a little couch and a recliner, he is a tough guy though so he did not care.  At around 3:45 we started pushing with our nurse Chris (she was amazing and kept mom super comfy.) and I started to move down and by 4:15 I was hanging upside down in this cold place trying to figure out how to breath, I did handle it with style and grace and looked good doing it though.  They put me on mom to warm me up and get me a little something to drink, it was a long day you know so I was a little dehydrated.  After that I got to go get my first bath with dad, I did not care for most of it.  The nurse then said that my temperature was a little bit to high to rejoin the family so I hung out with the nurses for awhile until my test results came back.  When I got to the room I got meet Grandma Janice, I think that she really likes me and is going to spoil me rotten.  That pretty much ended the day, oh except waking mom and dad up every hour and a half throughout the night not to feed, but to make a lack luster attempt.  Talk to you tomorrow.
